On Max Weber’s Rational “Progress” and Its Meaning

本文从理性“进步”及其意义问题切入韦伯的“理性化”的问题域,梳理了韦伯“进步”概念和理性“进步”概念的含义及其使用条件和范围,通过追问理性“进步”能否服务于与特定的文化价值观念相关联的人的生命的“意义”,讨论了理性“进步”的意义问题,尤其是科学“进步”及其意义问题,以期在特定的语境下加深对韦伯思想的理解,并为中国学界对有关“进步”问题的反思提供一点参考。

Taking rational “progress” and its meaning as the point of penetration to Max Weber’s problem domain of“rationalization”，this paper reviews the meaning and the appropriate conditions and scopes of Max Weber’s “progress” and rational “progress”，and discusses the highlighted meaning，especially scientific “progress” and its meaning under the premise of whether rational “progress” serves the “meaning” of life for man associated with specific culture values，in order to develop further insights into Max Weber’s thoughts in particular context and to provide a reference to China’s academics’ reflection on “progress”.
